FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Evanston, Illinois (June 1, 2022)  The Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) and its Board of Trustees have elected Adrienne Asta, BA, LMT, as its new President. Asta has served as an MTF Vice President for just over a year and Trustee for the past five years, and will begin her new position on June 1, 2022. She will replace Robin Anderson, MEd, LMT, BCTMB, CEAS, who served as president for 14 months and announced her resignation on May 17. Anderson said that she is stepping down for personal reasons.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished in creating and beginning to implement ergonomic strategies to support the MT profession. These strategies can strengthen our profession for sustained career longevity. It has been an honor to lead this Foundation with such a strong peer-driven history and help further MTF’s initiatives. Being in the COVID-19 pandemic, MTF faced its greatest challenges, but also one of its greatest opportunities. Working with an outstanding Board of Directors, a passionate and amazing expert staff, and the vibrant community of colleagues has been a real pleasure,” Anderson said.

MTF’s new President’s experience and expertise will be assets to broadening the Foundation’s mission of bringing scientific research, education, and community service to the massage therapy profession.

“Robin has been instrumental in helping to focus efforts on key segments and programming needs,” said Asta. “I am honored to continue where she left off and build on and energize the progress in every area of the organization. This is a significant moment in our Foundation’s history as one of the most impactful nonprofits in the MT profession. I am excited for what the future holds. It is critical that MTF’s abilities, resources, and collaborative partnerships stay fluid to meet the growing demands of MTs,” Asta, said. “It is a privilege to serve the industry through this new role – a privilege I do not take lightly. I look forward to working with our brilliant and talented Board, volunteers, and staff to move the industry collaboratively forward.”

Adrienne Asta has been practicing massage since 2001 and is co-owner of Center 4 Self-Care in Tucson, Ariz. She holds advanced certifications in Neuromuscular Therapy and Prenatal Massage, with her clients seeing her for nurturing and informed approaches to pain management.

New MTF Presdient Adrienne Asta

Asta is most proud of the work her company is doing to bring complementary therapies to those going through addiction recovery, and she is working on contributing to this area of MT research. She has been deeply involved in education for the massage industry, holding various education positions since 2002 and as an NCBTMB-approved provider for continuing education.

Having worked in a wide breadth of educational and clinical environments, she has a keen sense of the challenges that are common, from education to practice. She has developed ancillary materials for textbooks widely used in massage therapy programs and has trained all levels of practicing massage therapists and educators. She has served as Chair of MTF’s Community Service Grants Review Committee and on the Development/Marketing Committee.
