MASSAGE Magazine To Debut Diversity Issue in August 2021

Experts will explain how diversity improves business outcomes and examine industry inequities

MASSAGE Magazine, the only independent magazine serving the U.S. massage therapy industry, announced its first Diversity Issue, which will publish in August 2021.

The special issue will feature experts in the areas of diversity and practice management explaining the benefits to every business owner of diversity in employment practices and clientele development. The issue will also examine inequities in client care, changing U.S. demographics, and the current movement toward greater diversity by schools, businesses and corporations.

The announcement was made by Gallagher Area President and MASSAGE Magazine Publisher Nick Doyle.

“At MASSAGE Magazine, we feel it is important to highlight issues at the forefront of the industry,” Doyle said. “From school enrollment to current providers and clientele, diversity is a topic that is involved in most every aspect of personal interaction in massage therapy. Massage practitioners are in a position to help transform health care, especially if the field becomes more representative of our changing U.S. population.”

According to the National Health Interview Survey, use of complementary and integrative health by Hispanic and Black adults in the U.S. is declining. Further, statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates 83.6% of the massage profession is female and more than 70% of practitioners are white.

The Diversity Issue will feature a roundtable of diverse massage-therapy voices explaining the diversity challenges facing the massage industry and solutions to meeting those challenges.

MASSAGE Magazine operates under Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (Gallagher), an organization that prides itself in its Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) culture. Gallagher is a global leader in insurance, risk management and consulting services.

“Gallagher has this year been named one of ‘America’s Best Employers for Diversity,’” said Gallagher President GGB Americas and CEO, GGB-US, Mike Pesch. “I could not be more proud of our team and the culture we have built together.”

Awards related to diversity that Gallagher has been awarded include one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies (Forbes, 2021, for the 10th consecutive year); Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality (Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, 2021, 2020, 2019); and one of America’s Best Employers for Women (Forbes, 2020).
