Massage Publication to Support Runners Raising Funds for Research
Jacksonville, Florida, March 3, 2022) – Four massage therapists will be among the estimated 30,000 runners at the 125th Boston Marathon on April 18. They are members of the Massage Therapy Foundation’s (MTF) @RunningForResearch Team, and in addition to running the marathon, they are raising funds for the MTF.
This year, MASSAGE Magazine is sponsoring the first mile, or mile #1, of the 26-mile course, which winds through the heart of Boston, passing many historical markers, parks and buildings.
“MASSAGE Magazine is honored to have the opportunity to provide support to the MTF, as it engages in the important work of massage research, education, grants and community service,” said MASSAGE Magazine Editor in Chief Karen Menehan. “Massage research supports the massage field in becoming better understood and appreciated by the medical profession and the public, and in massage being utilized for truly integrative health care.”
Through the Boston Athletic Association’s Official Charity Program, sponsored by John Hancock, nonprofit organizations are selected to enter runners into the marathon, and those runners pledge to raise funds for their cause. 2022’s Team MTF @RunningForResearch runners for the 2022 Boston Marathon are Nancy Anderson Dollinger, Stacey Breslin, Lauren Hirsch and Sarah Lau-Melby. “I have autoimmune diseases, and have learned how important massage therapy is to living a healthy lifestyle,” said runner Sarah Lau-Melby in a statement provided by MTF. “Helping others relieve pain, gain range of motion, reduce stress, and recover from athletic activity are some of the reasons I love massage therapy research. Running to bring awareness to MTF programs is a natural fit!”
“We are honored to be given this opportunity once again to participate in such a prestigious charity program,” said Massage Therapy Foundation President Robin Anderson. “This is MTF’s ninth year as part of John Hancock’s Marathon Non-Profit Program. We have an incredible, energetic and enthusiastic team this year! We can’t wait to see them out there running for research in support of our profession.”
